Venezuelan Parliament approves 15 articles of the draft law on Commandos for the Defense of the Nation

This Tuesday, the National Assembly (AN) unanimously approved the first 15 articles of the Draft Law on Commandos for the Integral Defense of the Nation. This legislation aims to establish the strategic lines of action for the operation of these commandos, defining them as stances of planning, coordination, and execution of the State’s governing organs.

The proposal seeks to fulfill the constitutional principle of shared responsibility between the State and society to safeguard independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Among its guiding principles are respect for human rights, justice, cooperation, and coordinated integration between the Public Powers and the People’s Power, based on the doctrine of Simón Bolívar.

The law specifies the structure and operation of these commands, establishing their affiliation with the Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Ceofanb). It also defines the creation of a general coordination body and details the mechanisms for training its members, ensuring efficient organization.

In the current regional context, the approval of these articles is especially relevant for strengthening Venezuela’s territorial defense system. The legislation provides the necessary legal tools for a coordinated and effective response to any threat that attempts to disrupt the peace and stability of the nation.

Among the specific activities that these commands will carry out are the collection and analysis of relevant information, the preparation of reports on available resources, and direct collaboration with the Armed Forces. Furthermore, it emphasizes the protection of essential public services and critical infrastructure during emergency situations.

Congresswoman Gloria Castillo, president of the Permanent Commission on Security and Defense, highlighted that this bill responds to the historical need to safeguard national sovereignty and protect the Venezuelan people from external aggression. Finally, the plenary session agreed to defer discussion of the remaining articles to a future session, in order to make the necessary adjustments before their final approval.
