During the 16th United Nations Ministerial Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), held in Geneva, the Minister for Foreign Trade, Coromoto Godoy, issued a firm denounce. She exposed to the international community the threat of a military intervention and the economic blockade imposed by the United States against Venezuela.
In her remarks, Minister Godoy argued that peoples’ right to development is seriously violated by the aggressions of the nations of the North against the global South. Likewise, she formally requested UNCTAD to address the impact of unilateral coercive measures, specifically proposing the creation of a permanent observatory for their monitoring.
To support this initiative, Venezuela made available the experience and work of the Venezuelan Anti-Blockade Observatory. This mechanism, as explained the Minister, would be supported by the international organization’s own research and analysis mandate, seeking to quantify and make visible the effects of these sanctions.
In parallel to the denounces, were highlighted the Venezuelan economic achievements. Godoy specified that, as of August 2025, non-oil exports registered a 78% year-on-year growth. Sectors such as fishing, agriculture, and national industry have consolidated the opening of new international markets.
Finally, the Venezuelan representative advocated for the strengthening of multilateralism and UNCTAD’s technical assistance mechanisms. She called for the defense of a multicenter and pluripolar international order, free from hegemony, that promotes fair trade and technology transfer for developing nations.
