During his speech at the International Conference «Colonialism, Neocolonialism, and the Territorial Dispossession of Western Imperialism,» Chancellor Yván Gil categorically stated that «the only alternative our peoples have is independence and sovereignty.» The event takes place on October 2 and 3 at the «Casa Amarilla Antonio José de Sucre» (Seat of the Venezuelan Chancellory), with the participation of authorities, intellectuals, and researchers specializing in colonization processes.
Chancellor Yván Gil emphasized that building a homeland of their own is essential to guaranteeing citizens social, political, and economic benefits that enhance their dignity. His speech focused on an analysis of the current manifestations of colonialism and neocolonialism on the contemporary international stage, highlighting the relevance of these issues.
The Head of the Venezuelan diplomacy evoked the legacy of the Liberator Simón Bolívar, noting that «we built our homeland, safeguarding the legacy that the liberators left us on these lands from the Essequibo to the western part of the country.» Gil emphasized that Venezuela was historically capable of assuming «the liberation of almost an entire continent,» reaffirming this commitment today.
He forcefully stated that «we do believe in independence, we are anti-imperialist, we are anti-colonial,» while highlighting the construction of «a Latin American army» that defends these convictions. He emphasized that the Bolivarian Revolution, led by President Nicolás Maduro, defends these principles «with the greatest ferocity, courage, and love.»
The Venezuelan Chancellor indicated that the current historical moment requires to collectively confront the persistent consequences of colonialism and the new forms of neocolonialism: «It forces us to confront a situation that requires unity and the strength to fight for independence,» expressed Gil during his address to the participants of the international conference.
The conference at the Casa Amarilla (Yellow House) represents a space for academic and political reflection on the continuities and transformations of colonial processes in the 21st century. The event seeks to generate in-depth analysis of strategies of resistance and the construction of sovereign alternatives for historically oppressed peoples.
Chancellor Gil’s speech reaffirms the position of the government of President Nicolás Maduro in defense of the self-determination of peoples and the rejection of all forms of imperial domination. This stance aligns with the historical tradition of Venezuelan diplomacy and its commitment to Latin American integration based on principles of sovereignty and social justice.
