The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, stated that 70% of South American cocaine is transported on the ships and shipping lines of the banana companies of Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa.
The statement was made during his «Con Maduro+» program this Monday, in which he described this situation as «public and notorious,» directly linking the Ecuadorian businessman and president to the regional drug trafficking network.
These statements happen within the framework of the sending of a letter to the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump. The purpose of the letter is to counter international disinformation campaigns against Venezuela and deny the existence of the alleged “Cartel de los Soles” (Drug Cartel of the Suns).
The Venezuelan president urged Trump to request intelligence reports on Ecuador. He asserted that these documents would confirm how former President Guillermo Lasso had established a «narco-state» and how Noboa’s companies were involved in drug trafficking.
He also referred to the leak of the letter by Reuters, which he called a war agency against Venezuela. Despite this, he suggested publishing the document because it contains a detailed explanation of the reality of drug trafficking in the Pacific, originating in Colombia and Ecuador.
To support his position, the president included two official maps from the United Nations Organization (UN) Anti-Crime Organization in the letter. These maps would detail drug trafficking routes, showing that 87% of Colombian cocaine leaves through the Pacific and only 5% attempts to cross through Venezuela.
Finally, President Maduro reiterated the Venezuelan government’s commitment to the fight against drug trafficking. He emphasized that the country’s authorities are working to enlighten the world with the truth and demonstrate that it is a territory free of these networks.
