Vice President for Policy, Citizen Security, and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, reported that Venezuelan security forces are maintaining operational deployment in the Caribbean Sea, within the country’s jurisdiction, to continue the fight against drug trafficking.
During a press conference held this Thursday, Cabello also announced the discovery of new batches of explosives in Anzoátegui state, allegedly intended for terrorist attacks.
When asked about reports indicating the presence of DEA agents in the region combating drug cartels, Cabello asserted that Venezuela continues to address the problem with its own resources: «We are deployed throughout the Caribbean, which is our responsibility, in our sea, Venezuelan territory; last night we intercepted some boats loaded with fuel,» he stated.
He also accused the DEA of acting in favor of drug trafficking: «When the DEA moves, it’s to ensure the transportation of drugs to their country.» He reiterated that, according to UN reports, Venezuela has no drug production or transit, thus ruling out the existence of local cartels.
«The only cartel that operates publicly is the DEA, under orders from the US government,» stated Cabello.
On the other hand, Minister for Defense Vladimir Padrino López announced that he remains on alert for potential external threats, recently assessing the risks to national sovereignty with senior military commanders.
