President Maduro strengthens Amazon Alliance in meeting with Martin Von Hildebrand

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro held a meeting this Friday at Miraflores Palace with the Secretary General of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), Martin Von Hildebrand, with the goal of deepening regional collaboration in the protection of the Amazon.

The dialogue reflected Venezuela’s firm commitment to environmental preservation, in line with the ecosocialist model promoted by the Bolivarian Government. During the meeting, strategies to promote sustainable development and regional cooperation were discussed, reaffirming the key role of the Amazon in global climate stability.

Maduro emphasized the importance of South-South cooperation as a mechanism for addressing shared environmental challenges, based on principles of ecological justice, territorial sovereignty, and respect for Indigenous communities.

Von Hildebrand, a renowned Colombian ethnologist and anthropologist, has dedicated his career to defending Indigenous rights and the conservation of the Amazon. As founder of the Gaia Amazonas Foundation and promoter of the COAMA program, he has promoted the creation of Indigenous reserves, ethno-education, and the protection of areas such as Cahuinarí National Park.

His integrative approach to science, culture, and territory has established him as a leader in Amazonian cooperation. Among his notable projects is the Andes-Amazon-Atlantic Biological Corridor, which seeks to interconnect strategic ecosystems to foster conservation and environmental resilience.

This meeting represents a step forward in Venezuela’s environmental diplomacy, reaffirming its leadership in defending the Amazon and promoting a sustainable future for future generations.
