Venezuela’s alternate representative to the UN, Joaquín Pérez, denounced this Tuesday the United States’ complicity in Israel’s actions in Gaza, pointing out that its use of the veto and its inaction in the Security Council foster impunity. His remarks were made during the plenary session «The Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution,» within the framework of a high-level international conference organized by the UN.
Perez, speaking on behalf of the Group of Friends in Defense of the United Nations Charter, defended the recognition of a Palestinian state within the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Venezuelan Chancellor Yván Gil shared his remarks on social media, where he also highlighted the call to halt colonization and violence against Palestine in order to achieve a peace based on justice.
The diplomat presented four key pillars for resolving the conflict:
– Peace through justice: He demanded compliance with international law and an end to Israel’s impunity.
– Palestinian self-determination: He rejected illegal settlements, forced displacement, and any demographic change in occupied territories.
– Inclusive diplomacy: He advocated for narratives that promote dignity and coexistence, without discrimination or supremacy.
– International action: He urged the Security Council to assume its responsibility to definitively resolve the conflict.
Pérez concluded by demanding the US to stop providing arms and financing that sustain the illegal occupation, thus respecting international law and the lives of Palestinians.
