Venezuela denounces Political-Judicial coup against Cristina Fernández in Argentina

The Argentine Supreme Court on Tuesday ratified the six-year prison sentence and permanent ban from holding public office against Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, in the case known as the Vialidad Case. With this ruling, the former president becomes the first former head of state to receive a final conviction in that country.

Cristina Kirchner, current leader of the Justicialist Party (PJ) and a central figure in the opposition to the government of Javier Milei, will be excluded from the electoral race. Her intention to run for a legislative seat in the September 7 elections has been thwarted by this ruling, which is considered to be part of the lawfer, or judicialization of politics.

The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela denounced through a communiqué this political and judicial coup against the historic leader of the Argentine people:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela firmly denounces the political and judicial coup against former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, a historic leader of Peronism, the opposition, and the Argentine people, who is currently the victim of brutal persecution driven by a judiciary subordinated to the authoritarian project of Javier Milei.

This illegitimate and illegal ruling seeks to forcibly remove someone who represents the political and emotional heart of millions of Argentines. This is not about justice; it is about erasing the adversary with colonial methods, imposing by blood and fire an economic and social model designed to subject Argentina to international financial capital.

In the past, a disgraceful dictatorship disappeared more than 30,000 Argentine citizens, violating their human rights. Today, the same people as yesterday, with different faces, but the same class hatred, seek to politically eliminate a democratic Argentine leader, whose only crime is having governed for the majority and resisted the surrender of her country.

Cristina Fernández, following the example of Nelson Mandela, will resist this attack with dignity, and this persecution, modeled after the dictatorships that ravaged the continent in the 1970s and 1980s, will emerge stronger, heading for her hour of resurrection and victory.

But this is not an isolated incident. It is part of a single geopolitical coup against Latin America. We saw it in the vulgar electoral fraud in Ecuador and the seizure of power by criminal gangs; in the violence unleashed against President Gustavo Petro in Colombia; and now in the judicial assault against the Argentine people. The same script, the same strategy: Reconquer and recolonize the continent, annihilating all popular and sovereign projects.

From Venezuela, we call on the peoples, governments, and movements of our America to understand and confront this onslaught for what it is: a comprehensive war against the dignity and self-determination of the region.

The Argentine people have memory and courage. Sooner rather than later, they will defeat fascism, as they have defeated dictatorships. Cristina will return stronger. With Perón, Evita, and Néstor, the Argentine people will triumph!”
