Venezuelan Government demands cooperation from Trinidad and Tobago after arrest of Trinidadian criminals

Venezuela expressed its surprise at the disproportionate reaction of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, after the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, denounced the entry of criminal elements from Trinidadian territory and demanded the island’s cooperation to clarify the facts.

Venezuelan authorities have captured criminals of Trinidadian origin, who admitted their criminal plans. These statements have been supported by compelling evidence presented by the relevant authorities.

Given this serious situation, Venezuela expected cooperation to clarify the facts. However, the Prime Minister’s aggressive response raises suspicions of complicity and affects bilateral relations, traditionally based on collaboration in key areas.

The Venezuelan government urges Trinidad and Tobago not to fall prey to geopolitical provocations that run counter to the interests of both peoples. It reiterates its commitment to peace, sovereignty, and diplomatic dialogue, and rejects unfounded threats and statements that only seek to escalate tensions.
