US federal judge James Boasberg ruled this Wednesday that the hundreds of Venezuelans deported to El Salvador have the right to challenge their unlawful detention.
The US judge emphasized that Venezuelans deported from the United States to El Salvador, who were subjected to an 18th-century wartime law, should be given the opportunity to challenge their detentions, and that the Trump administration must provide appropriate legal remedies.
However, Boasberg did not expressly order President Donald Trump to repatriate to the United States the more than 250 Venezuelan migrants currently illegally detained at the Terrorist Confinement Center in El Salvador.
The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, affirmed that his government will rescue all Venezuelans kidnapped in El Salvador and reunite their families in their homeland.
