On the «Con Maduro+” program, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, spoke with the Minister of Productive Agriculture and Lands, Julio León Heredia.
During this broadcast, the progress of the rice harvest in various regions of the country was reported, highlighting the agricultural sector’s capacity to promote food sovereignty.
Promising results in harvest:
Minister Heredia highlighted the progress of the rice harvest, noting that «we are practically finishing the harvest in Portuguesa state and reaching 75% in Guárico state.»
The importance of the irrigation system was emphasized, which, with a projected capacity of 30,000 hectares, has already surpassed 46,000 hectares under cultivation.
The average yield is around 6,000 kilos per hectare, with expectations of even higher figures this year, reflecting a commitment to increasing national production.
Joint effort for food sovereignty:
President Maduro emphasized the importance of a joint effort between producers and the State. He stated that «There must be a joint effort with those who produce, with those who know how, but with the Venezuelan State and its capacity to guarantee financing, machinery, and all the necessary conditions for irrigating the land.»
This statement highlights a collaborative and planned approach to agricultural production.
To think Big: Supply and Sustainability:
«We must always think big; producing to supply is a goal,» stated Maduro. The President emphasized the need to perfect planning systems with producers to ensure scientific support that maximizes yield per hectare in each area.
The importance of logistics and the opening of new international markets was also emphasized, mentioning the interest in establishing trade links with India, which could create a virtuous cycle for the Venezuelan economy.
Capacity for Food Self-Sufficiency:
The president reaffirmed Venezuela’s capacity to produce what it needs. «Today, I can tell the country that we have the economic drivers to guarantee everything,» he stated. The head of state also declared his intention to replace all food imports, promoting local production under the slogan «Made in Venezuela.»
This strategic approach demonstrates a firm commitment to food self-sufficiency and the development of the agricultural sector as the main driver of the national economy.
