Venezuela was represented at the farewell to Pope Francis in Vatican City this Saturday by a delegation sent by President Nicolás Maduro.
This was announced by Chancellor Yván Gil, who is leading the delegation and who, through his Telegram channel, stated that he carried the message of love from the Venezuelan people and government:
«We have conveyed a message of solidarity to all the Catholic people and the Christian world,» posted the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs on his Telegram channel along with a video.
«Today we have a great role model, a great example of love, spirituality, and humanism, as the legacy our Pope Francis has left us,» he added in the post.
In the video, Gil highlighted the Latin American Pontiff’s teachings on humility, values, and the defense of sovereignty and independence.
The mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, who was part of the delegation, also praised the support of Venezuelans on this day of farewell to the Holy Father, Pope Francis:
«He left us a legacy, he left us many lessons, and above all, about doing good to our neighbors and listening to the people, embracing the people,» she emphasized.
For his part, Jesuit Father Numa Molina, who accompanied the Venezuelan delegation to the Vatican, highlighted the presence of ordinary people, indigenous ethnic groups, and cultural groups at the farewell ceremony: «It’s something very beautiful, something very beautiful,» he expressed, highlighting his happiness to represent the country and thanking for the life of Pope Francis, who gave so much love.
