This Wednesday, January 8, a commission of deputies of Parliament, led by the new Board of Directors of the National Assembly (AN), attended Miraflores Palace to carry out the act of notifying the head of state, Nicolás Maduro, of the start of the new 2025-2026 legislative sessions term.
The president of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, explained in a balance sheet that the first session period was installed on January 5, as established by the Constitution and the Board of Directors was elected, a requirement that is represented by all the deputies that comprise it:
“As it happens every year in January, we are here as has happened in the call to all Public Powers to report on the installation of the session period. We are fulfilling a constitutional mandate. The National Assembly is installed every January 5th until January 5th of the following year. This Parliament represents the entire political spectrum,» emphasized Rodríguez.
In this parliamentary reelection, deputy Jorge Rodríguez was ratified as president, Pedro Infante as first vice president and América Pérez as second vice president:
«The sovereign, constitutional and legitimate National Assembly of Venezuela has been installed. I congratulate Dr. Jorge Rodríguez, Pedro Infante and América Pérez as the elected board of directors. I confirm that together with millions of women and men of the people I will be there on January 10th complying with the Constitution and attending the legal call to swear myself in as president of the Republic of Venezuela,» said the head of State.
18 laws approved during the 2024 parliamentary session:
Jorge Rodríguez also reported that 2024 was a very rich year in parliamentary work, adding that there has been no small legislative task, where he detailed that during the 2024 session period 18 laws were approved, being duly promulgated by President Nicolás Maduro.
He emphasized that it was a busy year within Parliament that began with the mandate of the referendum on the Guayana Esequiba.
He considered it necessary to emphasize how complex the process of rebuilding the Legislative Power has been: «They destroyed it, and used it for conspiracy, terrorism, coups d’état, they did the opposite of the mission that is due.»
Likewise, he argued that in the face of threats, a law was approved for the defense of the Republic and to punish requests for sanctions against the country.
Also within the framework of the new economy and the productive processes of a real economy, in 2024 the law for the promotion of non-oil exports was approved.
After reading the installation of the board of directors for the new period of the AN, he reiterated the invitation to the president to be sworn in as President of the Republic of Venezuela on Friday, January 10.
Among those attending are the president of the AN, Jorge Rodríguez, the Minister for Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, Ministers and Parliamentarians from both the official and opposition factions, among other authorities of the country.
