Venezuela condemns Canadian exploration in Essequibo territory

Through the X social network, the Chancellor of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, condemned the exploration by Canada in the Essequibo territory, which constitutes a constant aggression of this country that seeks to provoke and harm the homeland, now with the incursion, in an illegal manner, into a territorial dispute in which it takes sides and violates all the principles established between Guyana and Venezuela:

“Canada has neither art nor part in matters concerning the Guayana Essequiba, the Guyanese Government must immediately demand the withdrawal of this pronouncement and the Celac take note of the imprudent and ill-intentioned statement that is an affront to peace and to our region”, stressed the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs.

Likewise, Minister Gil posted the information related to the violation actions adopted by the Assistant Deputy Minister for the Americas of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Glen Linder, in which through photographs the illegal activities in the disputed territory are highlighted.

On February 25, the Chancellor met in Brazil with his Guyanese counterpart, Hugh Todd, with the purpose of drawing up a road map to reach an understanding with said country on the legitimate claim of the territory, and also recalled that the first meeting of the Guyana-Venezuela Joint Commission will be held to address the issues of the territorial controversy between both countries over the Guayana Essequiba:

Also, on Monday, February 27, the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, ratified that the Bolivarian nation will not renounce the defense of the rights that correspond with respect to the territory: and likwise she assured that “Venezuela does not and will not recognize the fraudulent limits of the dispossessing award” and that the president of Guyana disowns, once again, the international law.
