Parliaments of Colombia and Venezuela celebrate reopening of the border and announce work agenda

The Congress of the Republic of Colombia and the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela issued a communiqué this Friday with details about the meetings that will take place on the border between the two countries.

In the text was highlighted the importance of the reopening of the border crossing on September 26, and is reported that the first meeting scheduled for that day had been postponed.

Following, the full text of the communiqué:

Hope is the way. We are ready to hug again.

From the Congress of the Republic of Colombia and the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, we celebrate the reopening of the border on September 26.

Our brotherly peoples will embrace each other again, to put life above hatred, to rebuild the battered economy of the region, to overcome crime, the enjoyment of Human Rights and the consolidation of peace on the border.

Given the need to guarantee to the maximum the logistical matters and the security devices that the visit of the High Government to the city of Cúcuta entails, it was decided to postpone the First Binational Meeting of Legislative Organisms.

The First Meeting is based on listening to the voices of the border and setting up work tables that address the structural problems of the border and its regional diversities.

We plan to hold five (5) binational meetings along the 2,219 kilometers of border, some of them before the end of the year.”
