Justice against terrorism: Sentenced to maximum penalty those involved in frustrated assassination

In a sentence spread by the media, the First Court of First Instance in Trial Functions with Exclusive Jurisdiction at the National Level to Hear Causes Related to Crimes associated with Terrorism and Organized Crime, reported that 17 subjects were sentenced to 30, 24, 20 and 8 years in prison for their participation in the assassination attempt against the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, perpetrated on August 4, 2018.

In the sentence published, the judicial body indicates that “is ordered the confiscation of the assets seized in the investigation process, and the custodial measure is maintained, which weighs on the aforementioned defendants in the aforementioned proceedings”.

Likewise, the Public Ministry is urged to process an arrest warrant against nine citizens, including the extreme right-wing leader Julio Borges.

Following, the full sentence:

“The First Court of First Instance in Trial Functions with Exclusive Jurisdiction at the National Level to Hear Causes Related to Crimes Associated with Terrorism and Organized Crime, ADMINISTERING JUSTICE ON BEHALF OF THE BOLIVARIAN REPUBLIC OF VENEZUELA AND BY AUTHORITY OF THE LAW, issues the following pronouncements:

In accordance with the provisions of article 349 of the Organic Code of Criminal Procedure, CONDEMNS citizens:

1.- JUAN CARLOS MONASTERIOS VANEGAS: 30 years in prison

2.- ARGENIS GABRIEL VALERA RUIZ: 30 years in prison

3.- JOSE MIGUEL ESTRADA GONZALEZ: 30 years in prison

4.- OSWALDO GABRIEL CASTILLO LUNAR 30 years in prison

5.- ALBERTO JOSE BRACHO ROZQUEZ: 30 years in prison

6.- BRAYAN DE JESUS ​​OROPEZA RUIZ: 30 years in prison

7.- HENRIBERTH ENMANUEL RIVAS VIVAS: 30 years in prison

8.- YOLMER JOSE ESCALONA TORREALBA: 30 years in prison

9.- EMIRLENDRIS CAROLINA BENITEZ ROSALES: 30 years in prison

10.- YANIN FABIANA PERNIA CORONEL: 30 years in prison

11.- JUAN CARLOS REQUESENS MARTINEZ: 8 years in prison

12.- ÁNGELA LISBETH EXPOSITO CARRILLO: 24 years in prison

13.- ALEJANDRO PÉREZ GÁMEZ: 30 years in prison

14.- PEDRO JAVIER ZAMBRANO HERNANDEZ: 30 years in prison

15.- HÉCTOR ARMANDO HERNÁNDEZ DA COSTA: 16 years in prison

16.- JOSÉ ELOY RIVAS DÍAZ: 20 years in prison

17.- WILDER ANDERSON VÁSQUEZ VELASQUEZ: 5 years in prison

Accused citizens are sentenced to the accessory penalties established in article 16 of the Penal Code.

The confiscation of the assets seized in the investigation process is ordered.

The measure of deprivation of liberty is maintained, which weighs on the aforementioned defendants in the aforementioned proceedings.

The Public Ministry is urged to process the respective arrest warrant against citizen ADRIANA ROSA BRONBIN BAEZ, holder of identity card V-21.224.42.22, as well as to give celerity to the process against citizens JULIO BORGES, holder of identity card identity V-10.890.645, VIRGINIA ANTONIETA DA SILVA PI PORTA holder of identity card V-7.828.866, OSMAN ALEXIS DELGADO TABOSKY holder of identity card V-13.988.807, JOSSER EDUARDO LOPEZ holder of identity card V-16.199.310, RAYDER ALEXANDER RUSSO MARQUEZ holder of identity card V-18.372.422, YILBERT ALBERTO ESCALONA TORREALBA holder of identity card V-18.654.917, GREGORIO JOSE YAGUAS MONJES holder of identity card V- 22.332.816, BEAUMONT ALVAREZ DAVID ALEXANDER holder of identity card V-19.851.116. Likewise, the Public Ministry is urged to continue the respective investigation and carry out the other actions that correspond by law (determine other international alerts, arrest warrants and extradition requests) to assert the criminal responsibility of other authors and participants in these events.”
