The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, congratulated the Colombian people for the electoral journey of this Sunday, where Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez were elected as president and vice president of that country.
Through a statement, the first national president highlighted the civility shown by the people who exercised their right to vote, expressing the will of the majorities that seek peace, social justice and equality.

“The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, on behalf of the Venezuelan people and Government, congratulates the Colombian People for the historic election journey of this Sunday, June 19, where Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego was elected as President of the Republic of Colombia, and Francia Márquez Mina as vice president.
The sovereign people of Colombia took to the streets with great civility to exercise their right to vote and express their decision to change, it is a triumph that reflects the will of the majority of the People who seek the justice and equality they long for in democratic peace. in their country and that they invoke in the notes of their National Anthem «In furrows of pain, goodness now germinates!».
The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela expresses the firmest will to work on the construction of a renewed stage of comprehensive relations for the common good of the nation that we share, protected by two sovereign Republics, whose destiny can never be indifference but rather solidarity, cooperation and peace of brother peoples.”
