President Maduro demands Biden to unlock Venezuela’s Vaccine Money

The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, publicly demanded his counterpart from the United States, Joe Biden, to release the resources paid by Venezuela to the Covax system to buy vaccines for the Venezuelan people.

At the beginning this Friday of the commemorative day for the fourth anniversary of the “Somos Venezuela” (We Are Venezuela) movement and the seventh anniversary of the Great Mission Hogares de la Patria (Homes Of the Homeland) and the Socialist Mission Bases, he recalled that four payments made by Venezuela to the Covax system were blocked by the UBS bank and reported by that mechanism as “resources under investigation”, an action that prevented the purchase of more vaccines for the Venezuelans, amidst the fight against Covid 19:

We have 10 million dollars paid in four deposits, which had been blocked by the US government, 10 million to buy vaccines for the people. I demand Joe Biden’s government to unblock Venezuela’s vaccine money”, he emphasized.

In this sense, the national president assured that the United States Government ordered the blocking of these US $10 million that Venezuela paid to Covax for the purchase of vaccines against Covid-19, highlighting that the country has already transferred to Covax more than 100 million dollars.

The Venezuelan Head of State denounced this “criminal robbery and the criminal actions of the United States against Venezuela,” in which he assured that the hegemon of the North acts in complicity with a small sector of the Venezuelan right wing that maintains the international lobby so that the financial blockade against the country is maintained:

“One thing is the political, diplomatic and ideological differences that we may have with the government of the United States, and another is for them to mess with the health of the people of Venezuela”, stressed the Venezuelan president.

President Maduro reiterated that the blocked resources are “legal money from Venezuela, hard and fast, to pay for vaccines against covid-19 and to accelerate the immunization of at least 70% of the population”.

In this sense, the Head of State once again stated that the goal set by the National Government is to achieve the goal of vaccinating 70% of the population by October of this year and reaching the end of this year 2021, to cover 100% of the Venezuelan population.
