Maduro: National dialogue allowed reaching a historic agreement for the appointment of CNE

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, assured this Wednesday that the development of a great national dialogue allowed to reach a historic agreement for Venezuelan democracy reflected in the appointment of the new authorities of the Electoral Power:

“We convened a great national dialogue, we sat down with all the oppositions and reached a historic agreement that is a great step forward for Venezuelan democracy”, he emphasized.

In this sense, he congratulated the new CNE board of directors, headed by Pedro Calzadilla as president, and Enrique Márquez as vice president, a former deputy of the now defunct MUD: “For the first time since 2006 a complete and comprehensive election of the CNE rectors is held”.

The national president greeted the swearing-in of new CNE rectors Roberto Picón, Alexis Corredor and rector Tania D’ Amelio, a process that “was discussed with all sectors of the opposition”, and recalled that this directive will have the responsibility of guaranteeing the electoral and democratic processes of Venezuela in the next 7 years.

Likewise, he offered all his support to the new leadership of the Electoral Power and thanked the deputies of the National Assembly for their work in evaluating and choosing the new rectors: “Venezuela is a country that has an impeccable democratic life. All the support, as Head of State, for the new National Electoral Council”.

In his reflection, Maduro questioned that for 5 years the Venezuelan right wing, having an “overwhelming” majority in the AN (National Assembly) in 2015, never took the initiative to appoint a CNE. He also lamented that countries where there are no transparent or participatory democratic processes, issued judgments about the election process of the 15 new CNE rectors: “The elections in those countries are made by the governments themselves, they do not elect in an independent and transparent manner”.

He finally assured that this year the elections for Governors, Mayors, Legislative Council and Municipal Council will be held: “We are going to the elections this year. May the one with the most votes win. A great step has been taken through the constitutional process of Venezuela”.
