This Tuesday, during the Ordinary Session of the National Assembly (AN), was approved in first discussion the reform of the Organic Law on the Right of Women to a Life Free of Violence.
“The goal is to expand and strengthen the scope of the Organic Law on the Right of Women to a Life Free of Violence through this partial reform, adapting to new times, while continuing to expand and promote national awareness and generate conditions for the effective application of this legal instrument,” said deputy Pedro Infante.
He indicated that the reform proposes the annexation of 12 new articles to the Law, as well as the modification of 32, leaving 138 articles, 4 transitory provisions, 1 repealing provision and a final provision.
“According to UN Women, in the world every day 137 women are killed by members of their own family, 15 million adolescent girls between 15 and 19 years old have experienced forced sexual relations and in Latin America, 1 out of 3 women is a victim of physical or sexual violence”, detailed the Socialist Parliamentarian.
Likewise, he noted that during August 2017 and December 2020, 610 femicides were recorded and only last year 713 cases of violen ce against women were attended to throughout the national territory.
“Since 2020, femicides have increased alarmingly, 1 femicide every 34 hours. In the first two months of 2021, 51 femicide victims were registered in the country, 26 in January and 25 in February. Data provided by the Ministry of People’s Power for Women and Gender Equality, as he indicated.
Deputy Infante asserted that acts of violence against women are a global reality, so this reform is of vital importance.
“Venezuela, since the approval of the Constitution in 1999, assumes as a State the principle of equality of men and women, promoting the construction of a democratic, social, law and justice State that advocates as superior values of the legal system and of their performance, life, freedom, justice, equality and in general the pre-eminence of Human Rights ”, he emphasized.
