Carmen Meléndez appointed as sectoral vice-president for Citizen Security

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, appointed this Tuesday, during a meeting with the State Health Majors, A/J Carmen Meléndez as Sectoral vice-president of Government for Citizen Security.

Meléndez, who also serves as Minister of People’s Power for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace, was appointed to this new position of vice-presidency “for citizen security, for peace, for the fight against crime, the penitentiary system, justice and truth”, said the Head of State.

A/J Carmen Meléndez was the first Minister of Defense in the history of the Homeland and the first Admiral in Chief. On October 24, 2014, she assumed for the first time the office of Interior Relations, Justice and Peace; she is founder of the Movement for Peace and Life.

She has served in positions such as Deputy Minister of Education for Defense; Minister of the Office and Follow-up of Government Management; Constituent of the National Constituent Assembly and Governor of Lara State, elected in 2017 with 63 percent of the votes.
