Five dead and 233 arrested for the facts of April 30

The Attorney General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, announced that 5 people have lost their lives and 233 people have been arrested throughout the country, as a result of the call for a coup d’état made by the deputy appointed by the National Assembly to Vargas State, Juan Guaidó, in the company of the prisoner and now fugitive from justice, Leopoldo López, on April 30:
“There are approximately 233 people arrested and five people dead. All those cases are being investigated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and will have definitive conclusions”, said Saab in statements offered on Monday to the News program of Venevisión TV station.
The highest authority of the Public Prosecutor said that “18 arrest warrants have been issued for civilians and military personnel, including low-ranking sergeants”.
Likewise, the head of the office for criminal action in the country reiterated that on that day “we saw parliamentarians and some officers with the rank of lieutenant colonel acting outside the law. Among those who stood out the most was the head of the Detachment of the Bolivarian National Guard in the Legislative Palace, Ilich Sánchez Farías”, as he affirmed.
Saab said that Sánchez “cheated on his troops” by telling them that they would carry out a routine operation, and then transferred them to the Altamira Highway Distributor in Caracas, where Guaidó and Leopoldo López were already.
Also, the head of the criminal action added that the Public Ministry acts “in accordance with the laws and the Constitution” and “in defense of the peace and stability of the Republic, which is the first thing we must preserve”.
The Prosecutor assessed as positive the positions of some countries in rejection of a military coup d’etat in Venezuela and insisted on his call for coexistence, dialogue and debate:
“This means that peace is winning. Let’s go to dialogue, advancing, and finally to victory”, concluded the Attorney General.
