TSJ summons Maduro to go to swearing on Thursday, January 10

The Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) summoned the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, to appear on Thursday, January 10 at ten o’clock in the morning, at the headquarters of the highest court, located on the Baralt Avenue in Caracas, in order to comply with the act of swearing corresponding to the 2019-2025 government term.
The decision, agreed by the Constitutional Chamber of the TSJ, responds to the interpretation of Article 231 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, where it is established that if for supervening reasons the President-elect could not take possession before the National Assembly (AN) , he will do it before the highest court:
“The Constitutional Chamber and the TSJ agreed to convene Citizen Nicolás Maduro for January 10 at ten in the morning to appear before the Supreme Court of Justice for the purpose of being sworn in as constitutional president of the Republic for the 2019 -2025 term”, said the president of the TSJ, Maikel Moreno, in statements broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).
On this occasion, the oath of office of the President of the Republic will be held before the Supreme Court because of the judicial contempt that the National Assembly has maintained since January 5, 2016, after the incorporation of three deputies from Amazonas state who were suspended due to irregularities in the process of choice.
One day after the swearing in of the Supreme Court, President Nicolás Maduro will appear before the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) in order to be acknowledged by the Originary Power, which called the presidential elections.
