Venezuela rejects repression against French protesters

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jorge Arreaza, on Sunday expressed his resounding rejection of the arrests and mistreatment suffered by the French demonstrators, who have been deployed for several weeks in various French cities to demonstrate their rejection of rising fuel prices:

“Venezuela expresses its concern over the events that occurred in several cities in France, where thousands of protesters protesting the execution of unpopular economic measures have been strongly repressed, leaving dozens injured and detained”, wrote Arreaza in his Twitter account.

Following, the full text of the communiqué:

“The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its concern over the recent events in several cities of the French Republic, where thousands of protesters protesting the execution of unpopular economic measures have been strongly repressed by the security forces, leaving dozens of injured and detained.

The Bolivarian Government hopes that the French institutions will act respecting the fundamental rights of their population, while urging dialogue with all sectors of their country to prevent the increase of tensions.”
