Venezuela categorically rejects statements by spokesman of the US State Department

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejected the statements issued by the spokeswoman of the US State Department, Heather Nauert, through a statement issued by the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs.

Read the full statement below:

“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly rejects the reprehensible acts of interference by the supremacist Government of the United States of America, expressed on January 23 and 24, 2018, through the infamous statements of Vice President Mike Pence and spokesperson Heather Nauert, as well as as by the erratic Statement of the Department of State. This abhorrent interference in the internal affairs of Venezuela is part of the systematic aggression campaign of the United States Government against the Fatherland of Bolívar, and constitutes a flagrant violation of the basic norms of international law.

The actions, hostile and interventionist of the Government of Washington denote their interest in destroying all the efforts that the Venezuelan Government has been advancing, with the support of several countries in the region, in favor of the political dialogue as a mechanism to resolve the differences between the Venezuelans . The administration of Donald Trump obstinately seeks to stimulate a social conflict in Venezuela that restores the violence that has already been overcome in the country, in order to benefit the internal political sectors subordinated to their designs.

Likewise, the Bolivarian Government denounces to the International Community, the despicable operation of destabilization recently unveiled by the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Mike Pompeo, whose ultimate goal is to undermine the Venezuelan independence and sovereignty, as well as to promote a violent and unconstitutional change of the Venezuelan Government. All this, through financing to terrorist groups, and the application of unilateral coercive sanctions that directly affect the Venezuelan people, and that constitute an illegal economic, commercial and financial blockade, and a flagrant violation of the purposes and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.

The decision of the sovereign and legitimate National Constituent Assembly, the depository of the original power, to call for presidential elections for the first quarter of 2018, demonstrates its strong interest in the consolidation of peace and social stability of the Nation, through democratic mechanisms. It will then correspond to the Venezuelan people, and not to any foreign power, to decide freely, through the universal, direct and secret vote, on the performance of their national authorities.

Finally, in reiterating its strongest protest against the constant acts of interference by the Government of the United States of America, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reaffirms its status as a free, independent and sovereign State, and urges the supremacist and xenophobic Government of Donald Trump to abandon their obscure warmongering and destabilization practices, and set out on the path that should govern the actions of civilized nations”.
