The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, asked the Electoral Power to set the date of the Presidential elections, and thus «get out of this and make a great Revolution in 2018 (…) I would make the elections this very coming Sunday myself», he exclaimed in the O’Leary Square, in El Silencio, Caracas, within the framework of the mobilization of the 60 years since the fall of the dictatorship of Marcos Pérez Jiménez.
The National Leader recalled that the electoral battles that were fought last year were successful battles: «We turned the political picture to the Yankee interventionism, the convocation to the elections for governors and mayors was successful and in those three electoral scenarios we obtained great victories, today Venezuela should feel happy», he said.
He stressed that the National Constituent Assembly took a historic decision to call for Presidential elections in the first quarter of 2018: «To advance the elections, raise your hand whoever agrees with that decision: Approved», he said.
«It is a wise decision, because with the scenario of an early presidential election, imperialism and the right wing are going crazy, and they were already preparing and activating plans to damage the economy and make the people suffer», he said.
He called on the pre-candidates of the Venezuelan opposition to take the democratic path: «We are going to measure ourselves (…) here there will be Presidential elections with or without you, (but) they have the bifurcated path, on one hand they say they will go to the elections, and from the North, they said no; I believe in the Venezuelan people».
Finally he called for the union of revolutionary forces to defend the peace, integrity and independence of our country, «I call on all political forces, the bell of the union of the anti-imperialists has sounded, it is a time of union, the division would open the door to betrayal and defeat, I ask you supported the people so that we achieve a perfect union of the Great Patriotic Pole and the social forces of Venezuela», he stressed that the revolutionary forces have a debt to Commander Chavez: Let’s get prepared ourselves together to go to the 10 million votes in this presidential election», he concluded.
