Economy and trade lead the negotiating agenda between Turkey and Venezuela

The Ministers of Economy of Turkey, Nihat Zeybekci, and of Venezuela, Simón Zerpa, met on Tuesday in the city of Ankara with the aim of advancing projects framed in the Agreement of Economic and Commercial Cooperation that both countries signed last October, when was held the Second High Level Mixed Commission during the official visit of President Nicolás Maduro to his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

On this occasion, the ministers agreed to hold the First Meeting of the Joint Turkey-Venezuela Commission on Economy, scheduled for January 2018, in Caracas. This binational commission will aim to expand and diversify trade and economic cooperation in areas such as agriculture, energy, fisheries, health, industry, construction, tourism, science and technology.

Zerpa and Zeybekci also reviewed the main issues on the binational agenda, which include the areas of energy and oil, mining and financial cooperation. Likewise, both countries intend to sign a Commercial Development Agreement that will lay the foundations for a broad long-term economic complementarity relationship.

Similarly, the Venezuelan minister informed his Turkish counterpart about the beginning of the process of renegotiation of the external debts of the Republic and Petroleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) by the Government of President Maduro, who has appointed a Presidential high level commission to carry out that task.

In this regard, Zeybekci expressed the desire for Turkey “to become the main provider of goods and services for Venezuela to continue being free and sovereign”, while advocating a long-term friendship relationship, framed in freedom and freedom. sovereignty of the peoples.

For the head of the Turkish Economy, his team will start in January “from the land of the father of the Homeland, Mustafá Atatürk, to the land of the Liberator Simón Bolívar, with the firm conviction that the relationship between Turkey and Venezuela will reach the highest level in function of common interests”.

Zerpa’s work agenda will continue on Tuesday afternoon with a meeting with the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Berat Albayrak, to discuss issues of the commercial and investment in the energy area.
