President Maduro paid tribute to Fidel Castro in Santiago de Cuba

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, paid tribute on Tuesday to the mausoleum of Commander Fidel Castro, located in the cemetery of Santa Ifigenia, Santiago de Cuba, about the 91st anniversary of the birth of the Revolutionary Leader.

In the company of President Raul Castro Ruz, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and the first combatant woman, Cilia Flores, the Head of State placed a wreath to the Revolutionary Commander, whose ashes rest next to the remains of Jose Marti, as informed the Embassy of Cuba in Venezuela through its Twitter account.

Both leaders “witnessed the change of the honor guards who guard the tombs where the remains of Martí and Fidel rest”, said another message published on the social network.

Meanwhile, the Granma newspaper said that President Maduro, along with his counterpart Raul Castro, paid tribute to those who died on July 26, 1953, the day when was made the assault to the Moncada Barracks, a historical event in which a group of young people led by Fidel Castro called for a popular insurrection that took place six years later with the definitive triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959.
