The struggle between loyalty and betrayal has marked the history of Venezuela

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said on Tuesday that the struggle between loyalty and betrayal of Bolivarian ideals and independence has marked the history of Venezuela for 200 years.

“Let’s not believe that history is past events, let’s not believe that history is testimonies, no. This struggle between loyalty and betrayal, between the Homeland and the anti-Homeland, is a story that is perfectly in force between those of us who defend the Homeland and have been loyal to the flags of our Commander Chavez, and those who have betrayed the historical flags of this people” Said the Head of State from a meeting with ensigns in the Bicentennial square of Miraflores Palace, in Caracas.

He recalled that for 200 years, the Liberators were betrayed by the interests of the imperial oligarchies, generating treason within the ranks of the army of Simón Bolívar and Ezequiel Zamora.

“Bolivar did not had an awake, conscious, proactive, active people to accompany him and defend him, and once the Liberator Army was dissolved, the Liberator and his historical project remained totally unprotected. There was another moment in history, barely opening a first light for the foundation of the Republic”, he said.

He stressed that, despite the betrayals of the Homeland that are currently being lived, “The people have been able to respond to different betrayals in the defense of their rights and sovereignty”. He added that the name of Venezuela resonates in Latin American history “Because we have gained a place in the history of the great Latin American Homeland and in the struggle for freedom, equality and dignity of our people. Nothing or nobody has given us anything, everything has been a product of sacrifice and struggle. “
