Maduro: Martí was a fundamental beacon to create collective Latin American and Caribbean consciousness


The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, extended a fraternal greeting to all the Cuban people, on the occasion of the 164th anniversary of the birth of the Apostle José Martí, hero of the independence of the Caribbean island and one of the greatest Latin American humanists.

Through the Facebook social network, the Head of State wrote: “Martí, a great Bolivarian, a great man of letters and a profoundly revolutionary man, is today one of the fundamental lighthouses for the creation of collective consciousness from our Latin American and Caribbean reality “.

The writer and revolutionary politician assumed as a mission to move towards the conception of a Cuba free from the Spanish colonial rule.

In his “Nuestra América” text, first published in The Illustrated Review of New York on January 10, 1891, José Martí described the continent’s hopes and also called for the unity and equality of peoples against American imperialism and colonialism.
