Public Ministry requested CNE for information on first phase of referendum request

The main rector of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Tania D’ Amelio reported that the Public Ministry (MP) requested the maximum electoral body for information on the first phase of application of a presidential recall referendum promoted by the Venezuelan opposition.
The information was released by the rector through her Twitter account.
On August 1, the Chairwoman of the CNE, Tibisay Lucena, asked the MP to investigate irregularities in the validation of 1% of signatures that the MUD collected in order to certify themselves as an applicant party for the referendum.
The request was made after the CNE technicians, in audits with their peers from all political parties in the country, found that a 0.33% of the footprints of the signatories did not coincided with the people who said it belonged, so it was requested a check to rule out cases of identity theft.
For the application of the referendum, the MUD collected 1.9 million signatures, of which 1.3 million were certified and 605,727 were discarded due to presenting inconsistencies such as signing of dead people, minors or persons deprived of their freedom.
After this, the MUD proceeded to validate 1.3 million signatures, however, only 407,622 people attended to certify their signatures.
Those 407,622 signatures were audited by all political parties and found that 399,412 were valid, and the rest (0.33%) had inconsistencies.
