The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, led a popular mobilization this Wednesday that marched through downtown Caracas.
The event commemorated the 166th anniversary of the Battle of Santa Inés, a historic feat led by General Ezequiel Zamora in the fields of Barinas in 1859.
The gathering brought together the organized People’s Power, which reaffirmed its support for the revolutionary process.
The central objective of this mobilization was to reaffirm the defense of national sovereignty against what was qualified as «militarist pretensions» in the Caribbean by the United States, in reference to contemporary references to the Monroe Doctrine.
During the march, the head of state was accompanied by a high-level delegation. Among those present were the First Lady of the Republic, Cilia Flores; the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez; and the General Secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, along with other civilian and military authorities.
During the event, was highlighted the massive and unified nature of the mobilization, identified with the colors of the Bolivarian movement.
Previously, through his accounts on social media, President Maduro offered a historical reflection on the anniversary. In his posts, he praised Zamora’s troops, which he defined as Venezuela’s first anti-oligarchic army, carrying the banners of the liberator Simón Bolívar.
Likewise, was emphasized the continued relevance of the three slogans that Commander Hugo Chávez Frías revived for the 21st century: «Land and free men, popular election, and abhorrence of the oligarchy.» Finally, the journey concluded with a space for collective reflection that linked the historical legacy with the nation’s current political challenges.
