In an official statement, it was reported that President Nicolás Maduro and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, held a telephone conversation to analyze geopolitical scenarios and reaffirm their bilateral partnership in the face of threats against Venezuelan sovereignty.
According to the document released by the Venezuelan government, the Turkish president expressed his «deep concern» about the military actions seeking to disrupt peace in the Caribbean, reiterating his solidarity with Venezuela and his defense of international law and the sovereignty of states.
In response, President Maduro described the threats as «illegal, disproportionate, unnecessary, and even extravagant,» according to the official text. The communiqué emphasizes that, despite this context, Venezuela maintains a course of economic growth, with 18 consecutive quarters of expansion, and an atmosphere of normalcy and Christmas celebrations.
In the area of binational cooperation, both leaders celebrated the success of the recent business fairs held in Istanbul and Caracas. The statement highlights the agreement to reinstate, as soon as possible, the direct air route between both capitals operated by Turkish Airlines, in order to boost the flow of tourists and investors.
Similarly, the commitment to reaching the goal of $3 billion in trade was reaffirmed, an objective that reflects the deepening of economic ties. As a gesture of this political will, President Maduro extended a formal invitation to President Erdoğan to visit Venezuela in 2026, on the occasion of the 5th Meeting of the bilateral Joint Commission.
The official statement concludes by underscoring the mutual determination to continue advancing in all areas of bilateral cooperation. This high-level dialogue is part of a Venezuelan diplomatic strategy to strengthen alliances with emerging powers, presenting the relationship with Türkiye as a pillar of its foreign policy of resistance and sovereign development in the face of international pressure.
