National Assembly sessions this Monday to create commission to investigate killings in the Caribbean

The National Assembly (AN) held a special session this Monday, with the main objective of appointing the Special Commission that will investigate the extrajudicial killings of Venezuelan citizens in the Caribbean Sea, perpetrated by United States military forces.

The session, in strict compliance with Article 42 of the Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, seeks to formalize the creation of this investigative body. Its mandate will include clarifying the events that occurred after September 2, providing support to the victims’ families, and following the corresponding legal processes to establish accountability.

The announcement was made earlier this Sunday by the President of the Legislative Branch, Jorge Rodríguez, who reported having met with the families of the deceased Venezuelans. During the meeting, relatives of the victims reported receiving threats aimed at silencing them and preventing the dissemination of the truth about these crimes.

Beyond the appointment of the commission, the National Assembly expects this body to not only investigate the events but also provide protection and support to the affected families. As part of the parliamentary actions, a formal request will be made to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to activate all available legal mechanisms to initiate the corresponding criminal proceedings and guarantee the integral protection of these victims and their families in the face of the reported intimidation.

With this measure, the Venezuelan Parliament assumes a leading role in the search for justice and truth, responding to the pleas of the families and reaffirming its commitment to defending the human rights of Venezuelans, regardless of their location.
