The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, responded to statements regarding a possible dialogue with his US counterpart, Donald Trump. The head of state affirmed that «dialogue is the path to seek truth and peace,» emphasizing that any conversation must take place «face to face.»
During his «Con Maduro+» program, the president recalled sending a letter to President Trump on September 6. In that document, he requested absolute respect for International Law and firmly condemned the threat of the use of force in relations between countries.
He also reiterated that free countries should only reach agreements through diplomacy and dialogue. He stressed that this position is based on the Charter of the United Nations, the Venezuelan Constitution, and the will of the people.
In a dialogue with journalist Miguel Pérez Pirela, the Head of State characterized wars as «an endless abyss.» He cited the conflicts in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya as examples of destruction, emphasizing that the 21st century must reaffirm the rights of peoples.
He also highlighted the unity of the country and development plans for the next 20 years. He affirmed that Venezuela is prepared to receive anyone who wishes to engage in serious dialogue, describing the government as «people of their word, decent, and experienced.»
Finally, the president referred to polls indicating the widespread popular rejection of military threats. He also mentioned the failure of opposition figures who attempted to seize political power in recent years.
