The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, reaffirmed that in Venezuela, not a pin moves without the determination of the working class. During the broadcast of his «Con Maduro +” program, the Head of State emphasized that this assertion is not new, recalling the power that the working class has historically demonstrated in the country.
To support his statement, the president referred to the events of April 2002. He recounted that, after the coup d’état, an insurrectionary general strike was declared, paralyzing the nation. He emphasized that, thanks to the mobilization of the working class and the people, they were able to rescue Commander Hugo Chávez, restore the Constitution, and resume the path to democracy.
“On April 11th and 12th, 2002, we didn’t have the strength we have today. We didn’t even reach 30% of what we have now, and as soon as the coup d’état was carried out, the order was given: an insurrectionary general strike, and it was just like that: not even a pin moved in this country. The working class, the people from the neighborhoods took to the streets until they rescued Commander Chávez, restored the Constitution, and resumed the path of democracy,” he emphasized.
He contrasted the people’s power of that time, which he described as “just a seed,” with its current strength: “Today it is a powerful, flourishing tree, a gigantic forest,” he affirmed, underscoring the significant growth of influence of the Venezuelan people.
In the current context, the head of state announced the swearing-in of the Organizing Committee for the National Congress of the Working Class, scheduled for mid-December. He announced that the work schedule, which will address fundamental issues for the sector, is already in place:
“Four work areas have already been established, and the schedule is now underway. The first subject (is) the economy, production, creation of wealth, and the economic and social rights of the working class and the country,” he explained.
President Maduro detailed that the first item on the agenda will focus on the economy, production, and creation of wealth. This area will also include the economic and social rights of the working class and the entire nation, setting the stage for future debate and planning in the country’s labor and production sectors.
