President Nicolás Maduro reported that Venezuela delivered evidences to the government of Trinidad and Tobago regarding a false flag operation allegedly planned by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The dismantled operation would have had as its goal to attack the country.
During his «Con Maduro+” program, the head of state detailed that between Saturday and Sunday were apprehended a group of mercenaries, trained and financed by the CIA. The uncovered plan involved a self-inflicted attack against military vessels positioned off the Venezuelan coast, specifically in the area of Trinidad and Tobago.
He emphasized the geographical proximity between Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago, noting that this proximity makes the territory an advantageous target for U.S. imperialism and was the basis to formally inform the Trinidadian government about the discovery:
“Between Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday, a series of arrests were made of what appears to be a group of mercenaries trained and financed by the CIA. This led us to uncover a plan for a self-inflicted attack by the CIA against its military vessels positioned off the coast of Venezuela, in Trinidad and Tobago. The map shows that Trinidad and Tobago is located within the maritime territory of Venezuela”, manifested the head of state.
The president compared this operation to historical events such as the Maine incident in 1898, used as a pretext for the war against Spain and the United States. He also referenced the incident of the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964, which served to justify the escalation of the U.S. involvement in Vietnam.
Finally, the president celebrated the protests carried out by millions of people in the eastern states of Venezuela. He stated that the demonstrations were held to reject the Trinidadian prime minister and the CIA, reaffirming that «Venezuela wants peace» and an end to what he considers imperialist threats:
«I want to congratulate all the people of the east of the country, all the municipalities of Sucre, Nueva Esparta, Delta Amacuro, Monagas, and Anzoátegui states who, by the thousands, by the millions, took to the streets to protest against the prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago and the CIA. They took to the streets because Venezuela wants peace; enough of imperialist threats,» he emphasized.
