Vice President Delcy Rodríguez warns of US deception regarding gas for Trinidad and Tobago

Venezuelan Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez warned the Government of Trinidad and Tobago about a deception by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The warning came during her speech at the Productiva 2030 Business Expo-forum, where she stated that Rubio is promising the supposed free delivery of Venezuelan gas to the Caribbean nation, a false claim.

The senior official was blunt in stating that the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago ”is being poisoned and deceived.» She emphasized that her country’s economy would collapse without gas exports from Venezuela, an agreement that already exists and is vital to the stability of the entire Caribbean region: «They need Venezuelan gas, and the only way is (to deal) with the Venezuelan government and State, not Marco Rubio,» asserted the vice president.

In this context, the Minister for Hydrocarbons also addressed the people of Trinidad and Tobago, warning them that their prime minister is “leading them off a cliff» by believing Rubio’s promises. She qualified as false the notion that the United States could take Venezuela’s gas and give it to them, emphasizing that this is a resource for which they must pay.

Finally, Vice President Rodríguez emphasized that the only path to energy cooperation is natural trade relations between states. She asserted that any other option, such as the one promoted by the US official, is «unnatural» and simply does not exist, reaffirming Venezuela’s position as the only valid interlocutor for this type of agreement.
