In the framework of the commemoration of the 533rd anniversary of Indigenous Resistance, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, received with a warm welcome a Manifesto by the Indigenous Peoples and Communities. In the document, the indigenous peoples declare their profound rejection of the actions of the North American empire and reaffirm their commitment to the complete decolonization of the Americas.
The representative of the National Assembly from the Yuxpa indigenous community, María Rubiela Romero López, was in charge of formally delivering the manifesto. The document explicitly denounces the threat posed by the US government’s deployment of nuclear equipment in the Caribbean Sea, an action that puts regional and Venezuelan peace at risk.
In addition, the indigenous communities denounced in writing the flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and international treaties by the United States. They also rejected the criminal sanctions and blockades that, they assert, violate Venezuela’s sovereignty and profoundly affect the Venezuelan people.
The event was attended by First Lady Cilia Flores; the Minister for Indigenous Peoples Clara Vidal; the Mayor of Caracas Carmen Meléndez; and the Commander of the Bolivarian Militia, Minister Orlando Ramón Romero Bolívar. Representatives from 36 indigenous communities and members of parliament also attended.
Before the crowd, the head of state honored the legacy and determination of the indigenous peoples: «Today it rained, it thundered, and neither the rain, nor the thunder, nor the sun can stop the energy of a people determined to be free. Here we are, in the streets of Caracas”, expressed Maduro, praising the massive mobilization.
On the Day of Decolonization of the Americas, the national dignatary extended warm greetings to all the peoples of the continent. Finally, he congratulated the people of Caracas for the exemplary mobilization held since the early morning hours, demonstrating the spirit of resistance and unity.
