Venezuela commemorated the 533rd anniversary of the Indigenous Resistance Day, an emblematic date that honors the strength, wisdom, and legacy of the indigenous peoples of the Americas in the face of colonization. This day is consolidated as a day of historical vindication and cultural identity.
In an act of profound symbolism, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, joined a massive march that swept through the streets of Caracas. The mobilization paid tribute to Venezuela’s indigenous peoples and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to social justice, equality, and the defense of cultural identity.
In the face of external threats, the national leader firmly stated: «We Venezuelans are called the fire-eaters. Let the imperialists know that we are the people of the fire-eaters, and they will never be able to defeat us.» Maduro proclaimed himself as heir of a «Caribbean, warlike, indomitable, invincible, and indestructible» lineage.
With words charged with historical force, the head of state referred to his own lineage and the spirit of the people: «I am Nicolás Maduro, a strong-arm Indian, son of Guaicaipuro.» He emphasized that neither rain nor thunder could extinguish the energy of a people determined to be free, in «the rebellious Caracas, the land of our Indian ancestors.»
President Maduro extended his greetings to all the peoples of the Americas, from Mexico to Patagonia. His message especially included the indigenous communities of states such as Bolívar, Amazonas, and the Sierra de Perijá, and the sister peoples of Colombia, Peru, and the entire South America.
This commemoration of the Day of Indigenous Resistance reinforces continental unity and the struggle for peoples’ sovereignty. On this date, Venezuela reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the memory of its ancestors and the defense of its cultural identity against any threat.
