Vice President Rodríguez: Decree of State of Foreign Unrest protects national sovereignty

Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez explained that the State of Foreign Unrest decree seeks to protect the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and vital interests of the Republic. This is in response to any aggression that threatens the nation, referring to a potential threat from the United States (US).

During the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace, the senior official emphasized that the document is being evaluated with all sectors of society. The measure is presented as a defense mechanism against scenarios of external aggression.

From Caracas, she emphasized that the Venezuelan Constitution is a factor of protection of republican life against what she described as «terrible imperial threats.» She stressed that countries without major military power have international legal authority to preserve peace.

The vice president was forceful in pointing out that the Magna Carta prohibits promoting or supporting external military aggression against Venezuela. Those who do so, she affirmed, will be prosecuted according to the country’s laws, with constitutional guarantees.

«We have a responsibility as authorities to not allow this type of expression in our territory,» stated Rodríguez. She added that anyone who openly calls for a criminal invasion or blockade «cannot consider themselves Venezuelan.»

Finally, she cited Section 7 of Chapter 2 of the UN Charter, which establishes the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of states, although it allows for the application of coercive measures in certain contexts.
