The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced the creation of the Ezequiel Zamora National Peasant Union. This initiative arises from the sovereign decision of the Venezuelan peasant movement to give the battle for production, economic independence and peace in the country.

The head of state made the announcement this Saturday during the organization’s Founding Congress in Aragua state. He highlighted that this movement promotes the reunification, rebirth, and resurrection of the legacy of the historic leader Ezequiel Zamora and Commander Hugo Chávez.

He specified that the National Peasant Union was created with specific tasks at the national level to strengthen sovereignty and economic independence. The objective is to consolidate a unified force that will drive the Venezuelan agricultural sector.

Likewise, the dignatary explained that this new council is governed by five basic principles: diversity in permanent action, solidarity, grassroots reunification, strengthening of the structure, and the ongoing reinvigoration of leadership.

The President expressed his gratitude to the thousands of peasant spokespersons present at the congress. He proposed to resume and develop a diversified production, caring for the land, and strengthening the small farm at all levels as a fundamental agricultural model of the nation.

Finally, he urged peasants to defend the homeland on all battlefields. He reaffirmed the commitment of Venezuela to remain united and standing to guarantee peace and face any difficulty.

The creation of this union honors General Ezequiel Zamora, a strategist and one of the three foundational roots of Venezuela, who forged an army that defended national sovereignty.
