Venezuela demands at the UN the cease of U.S. military operations in the caribbean

Venezuela, under instructions of President Nicolás Maduro, made this Friday a forceful call to the UN Security Council to demand an immediate cessation of U.S. military actions in the Caribbean Sea. The denounce was highlighted this Friday by the Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, through his social media.

The senior official stated that, according to reports from U.S. officials, these operations have resulted in «extrajudicial killings of civilians,» with the intention of «sowing terror among our fishermen and our people.» He emphasized the fundamental need to respect the political and territorial sovereignty of Venezuela and the entire region.

Venezuela’s position was presented to the Security Council by Ambassador Alexander Yánez. The diplomat denounced a «systematic policy of harassment» by the US, which includes unilateral coercive sanctions and smear campaigns to justify a foreign intervention in the South American country.

Yánez warned that the aggression has escalated to a more dangerous level with the military deployment of US naval, air, and ground forces in the Caribbean, including a nuclear submarine. He qualified these actions as a «flagrant violation of the UN Charter» that seriously threatens hemispheric stability.

The ambassador stressed, citing official US sources, that «extrajudicial executions are already being carried out in the Caribbean, bombing small artisanal boats with smart missiles”. He urged the Council to condemn these policies and to demand Washington to cease its hostile actions.

Previously, the Venezuelan Head of State, Nicolás Maduro, had denounced the deployment of eight warships, 1,200 missiles, and a nuclear submarine to the region. The national government also reported the assault for several hours on a Venezuelan fishing boat in territorial waters by a US vessel.
