President Nicolás Maduro welcomed at Miraflores Palace to Dominican politician Miguel Mejía, known as «Miguelón». The president emphasized that the visit strengthens the bonds of brotherhood between both nations and the entire Caribbean region.
The president, along with First Lady Cilia Flores, gave a warm welcome to the distinguished visitor. In his remarks via Telegram, the president expressed that Mejía brought them «the blessing of the Virgin of Altagracia from the Dominican Republic,» symbolizing a gesture of profound cultural and spiritual unity.
The meeting focused on reaffirming the joint commitment to genuine and lasting peace for the Caribbean peoples. Both representatives emphasized the importance of regional integration and diplomacy as fundamental pillars for stability and cooperation in the region.
Miguel Mejía is a political figure with a long career. Born in 1955 in Villa Francisca, Santo Domingo, he was involved in student and revolutionary movements from a young age. A lawyer by profession, he identified with Marxism-Leninism and was part of the Dominican Popular Movement (MPD).
His experience in public office includes serving as Minister for Regional Integration Policies during the administration of Danilo Medina. Mejía currently serves as Secretary of the United Left Movement (MIU) and as an International Affairs Advisor at the Dominican University of O&M.
This dialogue reiterates the construction of channels of communication and solidarity between Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. It is part of the ongoing efforts to consolidate a common agenda that prioritizes peace, cooperation, and mutual development in the Caribbean, demonstrating that active diplomacy is still alive in the region.
