Venezuelans demand UN to condemn torture at CECOT in El Salvador

Venezuelans rescued from the Center for the Confinement of Terrorism (CECOT) in El Salvador are demanding the UN to condemn the inhumane treatment they received during their detention. From the Palais des Nations in Geneva, citizen Arturo Suárez recounted the human rights violations they suffered.

Suárez, who remained kidnapped for four months, requested official statements condemning the Salvadoran government’s actions. He demanded an end to any measures that jeopardize the freedom and human rights of migrants.

He explicitly denounced the crimes of arbitrary detention, torture, and enforced disappearance. The detainees were prevented from contacting lawyers or family members, while CECOT agents carried out acts of torture.

He also lamented that the UN had not demanded his release sooner and asked the organization to pressure the U.S. to stop using the Alien Enemies Act against Venezuelans on its territory.
