Public Ministry arrests 14 prosecutors for corruption cases

The Public Ministry (MP) of Venezuela announced the arrest of 14 prosecutors from Carabobo state, including the state’s former chief prosecutor, for acts of corruption. The operation, carried out since last Sunday, is part of an ongoing internal crusade to eradicate improper conduct within the judicial system.

The institution highlighted the broad popular support for this initiative, which was described as exemplary and transcendental. The objective is to prosecute officials who committed crimes contrary to the law and the Constitution, thus reaffirming its commitment to transparency.

With these indictments, which link several judges and prosecutors, among other positions, the number of MP officials prosecuted rises to 570. The operation sets a historic precedent in the region and seeks to strengthen the integrity of the Venezuelan justice system.

The organization stated that it will continue to pursue unsparing criminal proceedings against those who «tarnish the proper conduct of the administration of Justice, Peace, and Human Rights» in the country.

The Public Ministry informs the country that, as part of its ongoing crusade against corruption and various forms of misconduct within the ranks of the Venezuelan state, and especially in the interim of our institution, since the early hours of Sunday, September 7 has been advanced in a new exemplary and momentous operation against degraded members of the justice system, which link to several judges and prosecutors among other posts.

This initiative, carried out amidst a strong popular support, follows the recent indictment and prosecution of 14 prosecutors from Carabobo state, including the former chief prosecutor of that state.

This current and extraordinary operation reaffirms our commitment to transparency and legality, ensuring that all our officials act with the utmost decorum and responsibility. The integrity of the justice system is fundamental to the full validity of republican peace, and it is our priority to protect and strengthen it every day through actions like these, which set a historic precedent in the Western Hemisphere.

With this severe and persistent acting there is a total of 570 Public Ministry officials who have been prosecuted and brought to trial for crimes contrary to the law and the Constitution.

As the head agency for criminal prosecution and guarantor of legality in the country, this Public Ministry will continue to exercise without restraints the public force against dishonorable individuals who stray from their path and seek to tarnish the proper pace of the administration of Justice, Peace, and Human Rights in Venezuela.”
