In a global event, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, held this Monday an extensive press conference with representatives of the international media. The central objective was to convey the truth about Venezuela in the face of military pressure from the United States (US) in the region, and more recently in the Caribbean waters.
He reiterated that the United States has sought to escalate its military pressure. However, he noted that the Venezuelan people is preparing for maximum defense. The president urged the world community to observe the nation’s historical trajectory, which he described as “one of resistance, libertarian, independentist, and anti-colonialist.» He affirmed that Venezuela has championed equality as a fundamental principle that has been maintained both in theory and practice throughout its history.
In his remarks, the president emphasized that the Venezuelan people practices 21st-century socialism, a humanist model based on a «direct democracy of people’s power» with a system aimed to build a society of equals, freedom, and harmony, where the victory of peace is the permanent objective.
President Maduro compared the current struggle to historical figures, naming Ezequiel Zamora as «the world’s first pro-socialist» and vindicating the project of the Liberator Simón Bolívar. He also reiterated the legacy of Commander Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro as historical leaders, whose ideals and orientations are more relevant today than ever.
Regarding the United States’ plans, he warned that the Venezuelan people is ready to protect national sovereignty. He emphasized that, after defeating other forms of aggression, Venezuela «will never give in to blackmail and threats of any kind.»
