In a blunt statement during an international press conference held this Monday, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, accused U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of seeking a violent confrontation. He stated that Rubio’s foreign policy “intends to stain the hands of President Donald Trump with South American and Caribbean blood.»
By addressing his U.S. counterpart directly, the Venezuelan president urged Trump to «be careful,» suggesting that the senator from Florida, whom he described as «intelligent and bold,» could be pushing him toward a conflict of which he is not fully aware:
«The warlord, Marco Rubio, has led you down a dead end. That’s not the way. Now they’ll see what they do. What is Rubio seeking? A regime change and to stain the Trump’s name with blood forever. An aggression against Venezuela, the global consequences would be out of sight”, he warned.
President Maduro stated that in order to achieve their objectives, «the empires need to demonize a leader, to discredit a revolutionary process… Gentlemen colonialists, I say this once again to the Nazi supremacists of this time: This is not (about) a man, this is (about) a people, this is (about) a sacred history, which you have not been able to destroy.»
«I am only a combatant worker, and the first Chavista president in history, dedicated to the defense of this sacred homeland. The Nazis and supremacists of this era have overturned the multilateral system of the United Nations. In there is expressly qualified and prohibited the use of military force against any sovereign member state of the UN, and the threat of the use of force against sovereign members,» he emphasized.
However, the head of state left open the possibility of a diplomatic solution. He expressed his hope «of that the channels we have will be restored,» emphasizing that Venezuela is always open to dialogue based on «words and respect.» «Everything is possible,» he stressed, emphasizing his government’s willingness to pursue the diplomacy of peace
In the face of external threats, President Maduro expressed pride in the nation’s resilience. He referred to the Venezuelan people as historically anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist world champions, asserting their millennia-old rebellion, which they have always asserted.
During his speech, he emphasized the dignity of the nation. He affirmed that Venezuelans «are respected» because they are a people characterized by its «dignity, conscience, and values.»
