Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro called on the peoples and social movements of Latin America and the Caribbean to unite in defense of their sovereignty and self-determination in the face of what he called «imperial threats» from the United States.
The president extended this call during his speech at the 13th Extraordinary Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our Americas-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), a forum held to express rejection of actions that, according to the alliance’s members, jeopardize regional peace.
In his speech, Maduro emphasized the importance of territorial defense as a fundamental strategy to guarantee stability and preserve peace in Venezuela: «The defense of our territories, especially that of Venezuela, lies in the unity of our peoples,» he affirmed, specifically urging the unity of «all rebel peoples and social movements.»
The Head of State referred to the current context of international tensions, alluding to those «who believe they own the world» and who, in his opinion, “seek to make the people surrender.»
Faced with this situation, Maduro asserted that “Venezuela possesses the capacity for struggle, unity, and will» necessary to continue what he defined as its humanist and democratic project, based on respect for independence and sovereignty.
The ALBA-TCP summit served as a platform for member countries to articulate a common stance rejecting external pressures and reaffirm their commitment to regional integration.
