Government promotes reform to include communes in the federal council

In a ceremony held in the Bicentennial Plaza of Miraflores Palace, President Nicolás Maduro tasked the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, with reviewing the Federal Government Council Law with the goal of formally integrating communes and communal circuits into this body of national planning:

«I urge a review of the regulations to grant significant weight to communal structures, in line with the dynamism achieved by the popular consultation processes,» declared the president during his meeting with regional and local authorities.

The head of state described the meeting as strategic for promoting community initiatives under development. Within this context, he urged the country’s 24 governors and 335 mayors to exercise strict control over budget execution, optimize the use of available resources, and provide technical and logistical support to community organizations.

«People’s power in more than 5,000 community districts requires concrete support: specialized advice, equipment, and financing to carry out their projects,» he emphasized.

President Maduro praised popular consultations as an «exceptional instrument» to build an «authentic, integral and directly participatory» democratic model, where decisions come from the community bases.

This legislative measure is part of the national executive branch’s policy of strengthening people’s power and effective decentralization.
